Created by the World Heart Federation (WHF), World Heart Day raises awareness of the fight against cardiovascular disease (CVD) and promotes the importance of a heart-healthy lifestyle.
It aims to drive action to educate people that by controlling risk factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity, at least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided.
Toowoomba Medical Centre is offering Heart Health Checks to all patients aged between 30 and 74 years. A Heart Health Check has been designed in conjunction with the Heart Foundation to assess a patients overall cardiovascular health and to identify if you are at risk of developing a heart disease in the future.
This assessment, which takes 40 minutes, examines lifestyle factors including your overall health, a review of your family history and includes an ECG on the day, and a cholesterol blood test, which is performed prior to your appointment.
This examination can be undertaken every 12 months, unless a heart disease is detected, and then your doctor will work alongside you to help lower your risk of a cardiac event.
If you would like to arrange an appointment for a Heart Health Check, please phone the practice on <link external-link-new-window internal link in current>(07) 4635 6111.
