World Asthma Day

World Asthma Day is Wednesday 5th May 2021 and is organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma (<link http: www.ginasthma.org>www.ginasthma.org).

This initiative was founded in 1993 to raise awareness of asthma worldwide. This year’s theme is “Uncovering Asthma Misconceptions” to address common widely held myths about asthma.

Some true facts about asthma include:

  • It can occur at any age.
  • It is not infectious.
  • When asthma is well controlled asthmatics can exercise and even perform top sport.
  • Asthma is most often controllable with low dose inhaled steroids.

If you are experiencing symptoms of prolonged chest tightness, difficulty breathing, wheezing as you exhale, shortness of breath after exertion and dry cough, your doctor can organise a referral to a respiratory clinic for lung function tests.

If you need assistance with managing your condition, please contact us to organise a GP Management Plan appointment with one of our nurses and doctors.
