At Toowoomba Medical Centre we are fortunate to have many talented staff. Janet has been a part of Toowoomba Medical Centre for over 10 years, and as one of our friendly administration officers, her role in the practice is varied. Working two part time jobs, she spends her afternoons helping the doctors, nurses and other staff at the practice, and her day is filled with tasks such as answering the phone and assisting patients, typing notes and referrals for doctors, general administration duties as well as being one of our privacy officers.
Janet’s talents are not only limited to the workplace. She enjoys activities outside of work such as singing, spending time with friends and family, and her greatest talent is free hand drawing. Having been inspired after illustrating a book at school, Janet has followed her passion for the creative arts ever since.
Over the years, Janet has completed many pieces, some of which have been featured in publications, at exhibitions and have been for sale in local businesses. Recently, Janet has been spending many hours working on a piece highlighting the famous Spring Bluff Railway Station. Located near Toowoomba, Spring Bluff Railway Station is a part of the National Trust of Queensland, and its iconic railway platform has been the inspiration for Janet’s latest creation.
Taking over a month to complete, Janet, who holds a Bachelor of Creative Arts majoring in Painting and Printmaking, uses drafting film and Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils to create her artworks. The fine details of the timber boards of the building, the leaves and stems of the bamboo and the wrought iron seat base take time and patience to complete. Other works Janet has completed, such as “Fading Light” showcase the fine details and hairs that are on the Poppy and the difference in colour as the light fades over the scene. This artwork was featured in the publication “CP Treasures - Colour Pencil Masterworks from Around the Globe”.
Not only is Janet a talented artist, but she always arrives at the practice with a friendly bright smile, so next time you are at Toowoomba Medical Centre, make sure you say hello and ask what project she is working on now.
