Measles Warning!

There has been an increase in Measles cases reported in Queensland in the last month, primarily in South East Queensland.

As per a warning which was released by Queensland Health (Communicable Disease and Infection Management Unit) we wish to advise our patients of the following.

Measles is a highly infectious and viral illness that can be easily spread through the air with most recent cases being acquired through infection overseas.  However, there have been some local transmissions of Measles within Australia.

Currently, there is a large outbreak in New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and the Philippines.

It has been advised that all patients who are intending to travel to these countries (or overseas) are vaccinated.  

Immunisation is a safe and effective prevention of the disease.

If you have recently travelled overseas (especially to any of the countries that have an outbreak) and have any of the following symptoms, please make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible, or present to the nearest emergency department.

Symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Tiredness
  • Runny Nose
  • Dry Cough
  • Sore Red Eyes
  • Red Rash

If you have any of these symptoms, please advise reception PRIOR to arriving to your appointment.
