Healthy Eating and Exercise During COVID-19

Isolation and social distancing during COVID-19 have become apart of our daily routine, however, it is still important to ensure that we eat healthy meals and get regular exercise.

Below are some tips and information from Matthew (Exercise Physiologist) and Caitlyn (Dietician) from Healthy Lifestyles Australia.

EXERCISE

While the Coronavirus restricts us from a lot of great activities such as group classes, meetups, gym and even pool-based activities, there are still a lot we can do at home to benefit our health.

This can start with something as simple as doing stretches for the large muscle groups with slow controlled breathing for a count of 30 for each stretch. Home exercises can consist of everyday activities in the house such as sit to stands. How would you measure up if your local Exercise Physiologist measured you?

Why not speak to your GP about organizing a referral to see Matthew Miller from Healthy Lifestyles Australia to talk about your exercise goals.

HEALTHY EATING

Now is the time to figure out your personal food strategies to maintain good health and well-being. Balance is key, particularly when it comes to food. Nourishing food options including seasonal fruit platters and veggie-stick dip platters are excellent choices to help keep away those mid-morning/afternoon grumbles. Swapping that stubby for a glass of sparkling mineral water and fresh lemon juice reduces energy consumption while still enjoying a refreshing drink.

Accredited Practicing Dietitian Caitlyn Henderson is available to help with more individualized meal guides and uses mindful eating techniques to help set achievable goals to maintain or improve your health.
