Cancer is such an ugly word, it elicits so many emotions and responses, but for women there are some cancers that are specific to the female body.
Cervical cancer is one such disease. However, the Cervical Screening Test (formerly Pap Smear) can help offer early detection as it is a more accurate and detailed examination. The test detects the Human Papillomavirus which causes changes to the cells in the cervix, compared to a Pap Smear test which found the changes once they had occurred.
The new screening test is for women aged between 25 and 74 years and is completed every 5 years, if your most recent test is normal.
